To experiment at achieving a better enamel pain depth to the lettering I tried mixing pigment to fast cast and pasting into my segment mould then casting with metal powder on top. It didnt turn out that great. The red pigment just appeared as if it were smudged paint on the surface and it anything it detracted from the depth that the pigment I used in the polyester resin achived.
Anothe method I tried was to use gel coat to create a clear outer shell to the segment, allowing it to cure till the surface was sticky to the touch and then pouring a pigmented resin on top of it. Although it wasnt as consistant as I needed it was an interesting effect that certainly does give the piece some depth:
My progress this week seems to be grinding to a halt, at least on the practical side of things. This weekend I hope to organise my reasearch folder and expand on any points I feel I have neglected. Also need to ask tutors about submitting digitally to save paper.
